case study - Morrisons

morrisons

When WM Morrison Produce, part of Morrisons, one of the UK’s leading supermarkets, decided to automate one of its distribution units, the company shopped around before deciding that Welconstruct was its ideal conveyor supplier.

Welconstruct has just completed the automation of the fruit and vegetable distribution centre in Thrapston. This facility now allows packers to pick and pack the items at a rate of 4,000 per hour. Sector manager, Wayne Morran, explains: “Due to the company’s expansion, Morrison’s needed a facility which was capable of generating a larger quantity of produce and therefore we were asked to put forward a complete package, which included helping with the design and specification; this resulted in a bespoke conveyor application which was installed and running within just six weeks of the initial order date.” Barry Redford, general manager for Welconstruct, said: “Before undertaking any project we go into see the company personally to ensure that we are creating the best individual package for them. When Morrison’s decided that it wanted to construct and install a conveyor system we showed the company past examples and devised a complete turnkey package which was ideal for its needs. “At our Midlands head office in Brierley Hill we have full technical design, manufacturing and project management capability and we are fully committed to providing the highest standards of quality and service to our clients.”
